( arms fly open in disbelief. )

You said yourself that there's missions that need to be done here and I'm supposed to prove home is worth saving. I can't turn my back on any of that no more than you can.

( somehow this feel ironic coming from batman and yes, even at his age, he's aware of that. his mom does say things after all. so does his dad. )

But why are you here and not at the manor with Damian?

( bruce isn't busy. if he were busy, robin would know. lex luthor is here now, which is a concern in of itself. clark kent, too, along with his whelp who has attached himself to damian in a way damian doesn't - hate. there are things to keep an eye on, but nothing drastic enough to keep the dark knight's attention all that long.

yet he says he's busy. because he wants to be left alone.

if it were grayson - no, it wouldn't be, because richard may have become irritated with damian, lost patience, but he'd never thrown damian away. never told him to go away, so much as he'd demanded damian go to his room for a moment to give himself space. but grayson has moved on, he isn't batman anymore, bruce is and yet isn't quite damian's either. neither of them are. the other one has todd to watch over as he heals from what this batman had done to him. and this bruce might have recognized damian, but he had said damian isn't his son - isn't his robin. if grayson wasn't preoccupied with gordon, damian might have reached out to him to ask him what he should do, ask for guidance on what robin is meant to be here.

but he has other matters to attend to that aren't damian.

the message sits for a moment, while damian considers what he's meant to do here. should he insist on staying within his father's space to make sure he doesn't bury himself in the darkness? should he give him the space he's pushing for?

[ He'll let it go at that then. He almost sends Jon on his way instead of answering the question, but he's in no position to make a Super do anything. No kryptonite and two busted ribs. He'd have to navigate this kid out of his living room carefully. ]

( he’s not sure if he believes that or not, but. well. he’s not about to argue batman. not on whether or not he needs help with… whatever he’s doing. turning to take his leave because, well. that’s really all he came here for, he stops then and looks back over to bruce. )

Um… thanks. For listening, I mean. And when you feel like you want to talk to my mom and dad here, they have separate apartments in this building. I’m sure you can find them.

[ Bruce nods. Meeting Clark is inevitable. He's dealt with enough multiversal shenanigans to know they'll cross paths eventually. Jon doesn't have to worry about that.

He doesn't get up to see Jon off as he turns to leave. ]

( nodding, he goes to leave again but... stops again, looking over his shoulder back to bruce. )

( he'd rather his parents or damian, but. he'll take what he can get. )

[ He's not ideal, no. Bruce can accept that. Jon's a kid. Of course he'd prefer his parents and best friend remember him. Bruce is a rather poor substitute. ]
